Seniors in Ontario’s retirement homes deserve an affordable place to live and workers who are protected. But Chartwell executives and the greedy industry are gouging them at every turn.
Rent may be controlled, but Chartwell is increasing their profits, using a loophole by increasing “service fees”, which are unlimited. Some residents have experienced 28% increases to their cost of living in just 4 years. This is more than just inflation. This is an out of control market. It includes Trump and his billionaire friends as owners, jacking up prices so they can get richer.
Seniors and workers are paying the cost.
Cap annual increases in service fees for current residents at the same guideline that caps their rent. And pay the people who deliver care wages that cover their rent, buy their groceries, and guarantee workplace protections.
Stop gouging seniors and shortchanging workers.
